How do i calculate the percentage of grade on a street?

This is a good question for Civil Engineers. When I'm driving, I see a lot of signs that state "6% grade ahead". Obviously that means you're going uphill or downhill but is there a formula for actually calculating what the grade is?How do i calculate the percentage of grade on a street?
Yes.

Slope = Difference in elevation / Distance

For example in 100' if the elevation rose 6'

Slope = 6' / 100' = .06

move the decimal 2 places to the right to get %

.06 = 6%

For a 6% grade, in 100' the road would either go up or

down 6'.
