How do you calculate a certain percentage of an amount?

Let's say I want to give 30% off discount from the amount $73.40, would it be right to press 73.40 - 30 and press the % button so that will give you 51.45, then I take 73.40-51.45=21.95. Is that correct or there an easier way of doing it?How do you calculate a certain percentage of an amount?
First, your numbers are wrong. 30% discount would be 22.02 dollars.

73.40 - 22.02 = 51.38......apparently your calculator doesn't like decimal places or

you have it set to round off too soon. If you just want the discount price multiply the 73.40

price by 70 % and get 51.38. If you want the true number ( since your calculator does not

like to give it) use a paper and pencil. For a percent discount, don't subtract 30, multiply by .3.
Something seems a little off there. I came up with $51.38

First off, you are double subtracting. 73.40 - 30 % is already taking the 30% off, you can stop there.

By subtracting 51.45 from the 73.40, you are subtracting 70% from the original 100% price, leaving you with the 30% - making the item 70% off, (or 30% of it's original value)

Another way to do it is to take 73.40 * .7 (Taking 70% of the price, which is the same as 30% less)

That results in an incorrect answer.

The easiest way is to multiply $73.40 by .70

(If it's 30% off, then the discounted price would be 70% of the original price.)
Method 1

----------------

100%%26lt;-----------%26gt;$73.40

10%%26lt;--------------%26gt;$7.34

30%%26lt;--------------%26gt;$22.02

New price = $73.40 - $22.02 = $51.38

Method 2

---------------

New price = 0.7 x $73.40 = $51.38How do you calculate a certain percentage of an amount?
73.40 x 30% (or .30) = $22.02 discount

$73.40 - $22.02 = final cost $51.38
