When I calculate the percentage of error, can the result be over a 100 percent?

The actual result was .003 and my average result was .36. I got 1199900% error. Is this right? When I calculate the percentage of error, can the result be over a 100 percent?
no percentage is always between 0 and 100
1) Is the actual result given, which is 0.003, already been multiplied by 100% or no? If not, then the final percentage should be 0.3% which is pretty close to what your average result was.

2) The result CAN be over 100 percent depending on what you're calculating. If you got this percentage from doing a science lab, you will need to state what the possible sources of errors are and etc.

Hope this helps!!!When I calculate the percentage of error, can the result be over a 100 percent?
It can be over 100%. But you didn't get it quite right here.

% error = 100 x abs(expected - measured) / measured

% error = 100 x (0.36 - 0.003) / 0.003

% error = 100 x 119

11900%

But you should check your measurement. Could you have forgotten a factor of 100 somewhere?
yes it can.

however, when i found yours, i got 11900%

**percent means per 100 or how much out of 100. that usually doesn't go over 100 but it does in many many cases that i won't list. percentage of error can be over 100%When I calculate the percentage of error, can the result be over a 100 percent?
No.

It is your estimate minus the true value divided by the true value and multiplied by 100.

So, % error = (estimate - actual) / actual * 100, in absolute value.
percent error = your answer- actual/ actual times 100 which is 1190%. it is possible to be over 100%
Yes it can. The formula to find the percentage of error is

[your answer - actual answer/actual answer x 100].

So yes it can be over 100% but it would mean that your guess was really off.
No. It has to be below 100 percent,

That must be a sucky machine
