This is to calculate increase on my maintenance payments which are increased according to RPI over last year.Retail Price Index - How do I calculate the percentage increase over year from Sep 06 to June 07?
The easiest way is to determine the RPI score for each period, for Example the Sep '06 RPI score may be 143 and the June '07 score may be 157. A little quick algebra tell you that that your old maintenance payment/old RPI score = new maintenance payment/new RPI score. When you simplify this mathematically you end up with a simple formula:
old maintenance payment/old RPI score*new RPI score = new maintenance payment.
Given the example above and an example maintenance payment of $1200 you would get a new payment of
1200/143*157 = 1317.48
