Can someone tell me how to calculate percentage composition in a compound?

Calculate the percent composition of Ag in the compound Ag2O?

6.9% Ag

46.6% Ag

87.1% Ag

93.1% Ag

Calculate the percent composition of O in the compound Ag2O?

6.9% O

7.4% O

14.8% O

16.0% OCan someone tell me how to calculate percentage composition in a compound?
The percent Ag by mass is the mass of Ag divided by the molar mass of the compound times 100

Ag2O

The mass of Ag = 2 x 107.9 = 215.8 g

The mass of O = 16.0 g

The total mass = 231.8

The percentage of Ag is 215.8 / 231.8 x 100 = 93.1% Ag

The percentage of O is 16.0 / 231.8 x 100 = 6.9 % OCan someone tell me how to calculate percentage composition in a compound?
You can find the percentage of the mass of a compound that comes from each of the elements in the compound by using this equation:

Percent Composition

So the % composition of Ag in Ag2O is

%Ag in Ag20

(2)(107)/229 *100= 93.4 (answer after rounding up numbers)

or the sum of percentages of composition of all

elements in a compound is 100%.

Thus 100-6.9= 93.1 (same numbers only that I rounded off)

...so do the same for the rest. Can someone tell me how to calculate percentage composition in a compound?
You want mass of silver over total mass. You'll need to use the periodic table.

1. Add up the mass of the silver, which is the mass number of the periodic table (remember there are two of them)

2. Divide by the total mass of the compound, again from the molar masses on the periodic table

3. multiply by 100 to get a percentage
For the first one

weight of the element / total weight

108x2 / [108x2 + 16] = 216 / 232 = 93.1%
