i have to calculate the percentage purity of KOH any i know that the impurity does not react with acid. I was thinking titration but then i dont know how the end result would help me?What experimental procedure would you use to calculate percentage purity?
You would best be off using a titration.
Take KOH, find out how much you have in mL, and neutralize it with a known concentration of HCl. When the end point is reached you find how much HCl you have used. Using the known volume and concentration of HCl you can then find how many moles of it you used. Once you have how many moles of KCl you have using a balanced chemical equation:
HCl + KOH -%26gt; KCl + H2O
You notice a 1:1 relationship therefore the number of moles of KOH are equal to the number of moles of HCl.
