Provide the names for each isomer and calculate the percentage of each isomer?
2-methyl pentane ---------Cl2----%26gt; ?
**** I come up with only a few isomers, I dont know all of them, I get confused, I would appreciate the help. I am also confused on finding the percentage of each isomer?Provide names for each isomer and calculate percentage of each? help please?
http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:M7n鈥?/a> Rate (chlorination):
Tertiary (5.2 X's as probable), there is only 1 tert H = 5.2 /29.8 = 17%
Secondry(3.9 x's as probable), there are 4 sec H's = 15.6 / 29.8 = 52%
Primary (1 x's as probable) , there are 9 pri H's = 9 / 29.8 = 30 %
1-chloro, 2methyl has two optical isomers, the #2 carbon is chiral (a primary chloro)
these are 6 out of the 9 primary hydrogens that could have been substituted =%26gt; 20%
2-chloro, 2-methyl (a tertiary chloro)
there is only 1 tert hydrogen =%26gt; 17%
3-chloro, 2-methyl (a secondary chloro)
this has half of the sec H's substituted =%26gt; 26%
4-chloro, 2-methyl (a secondary chloro)
this has half of the sec H's substituted =%26gt; 26%
5-chloro, 2-methyl which is really called 1-chloro ,4-methyl (a primary chloro)
this has 3 out of the 9 primary hydrogens that could have been substituted =%26gt; 10%
since the amount of the probability of substitution is generic...
the %'s are rough
