How do you calculate percentage?

OK. I always sucked at math. I am taking a test for preemployment. If someone could help me calculate this percentage and tell me how to approach it and solve it I would be glad :



"You visit a local restaurant and your pre-tax bill is $45.75. If sales tax is 6% and you include a tip of $9.00, what is the total charged to your credit card?"

45.75 + 6/100 * 45.75 + 9.00



=$57.50
The old fashioned method of calculating persentage is to first divide the figure by 100 as 100 represents persentage. The easiest way to do this is move the decimal point 2 places to the left which mades your figure $0.4575 (100th of $45.75) then multiply that new figure by the amount of persentage required, in your case 6, that gives us a figure of $2.75 so now add that to the original amount of $45.75 + $2.75 + $9.00 = $57.50. Here's where I got the 1.06:

The tax rate is 6%. 6% is 6 out of 100. 6/100 is .06.

By multiplying by 1.06, you're multiplying by 106% of your pre-tax bill. You would get the same answer if you multiplied the tax rate by the bill and then added the bill.
always divide the % figure by 100. In this case it will be 6/100. Multiply this number by the doller amount you want %age for.. 45.75*6/100=2.745...so bill with tax be 45.75+2.745=48.495. Now add tip of $9 to this amount. so it will be 48.495+9=57.495...How do you calculate percentage?

Add the tax, the bill, and your tip:

$2.87 + $45.75 + $9.00 = $57.62
your bill is 45.75 and you want to find 6% of that for the tax so

you 45.75x6% mult the bill by the 6%

and 6% =.06

so 45.75x.06=2.75



so 2.75 is your tax

now we add the price the tax and tip together

45.75+2.75+9=$57.50
multiply 45.75 X 6%=2.75 (I rounded up like the restaurant would)

Add 45.75 + 2.75 = 48.50

Add 9 (tip) + 48.50 = 57.50
57.30 should be the total charge
